No doubt we all have heard that question more than a few times in the last few weeks. Hopefully, we all have warm homes to take shelter in with our loved ones when the temperature drops and the snow begins to fall, and fall, and fall. When we bundle up in all of our layers to brave the outdoors we can sometimes feel like this…
Good Counsel Homes have been a safe haven for pregnant woman who are abandoned in more ways than one and some woman come to us right off the street. When we experience the kind of arctic cold that we did recently, our work really does become life-saving.
At the time of this blog post, we are excitedly awaiting the arrival of four new babies. Can you imagine how dire their situations would be if not for the warmth they have found inside a Good Counsel home. Our homes vary in size, and depending on the location, heating costs vary dramatically. In our largest home, in the Bronx, we care for 15 mothers and their children in a city with some of the highest utility rates in the country. This winter, we are anticipating a total cost of $33,000 to provide heat for nearly 80 mothers and children in four Good Counsel homes.
Your generous, tax-deductible contribution helps not only to heat our homes, but will provide warm and healthful food on our tables, electricity to run our computers so a mom can study for her GED, as well as gasoline for our vehicles so that we can drive a mom to the hospital when it is time to deliver her baby.
Thank you for all you do to help Good Counsel continue saving many moms and babies from the streets, especially during these extremely cold winter nights!
