Good Counsel Homes, A Global Inspiration

Our Bronx home recently had a very exciting visitor!  Yoon Sun Cho, Minister of Gender Equality & Family for the Republic of Korea, spent time in our Good Counsel home as part of her recent trip to the United States. While in New York City for the session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Minister Cho and some of her delegates toured our home and spent time speaking with and observing our staff and residents and also spent some time with our toddlers. Help for Every Need

In February of 2012, Iris came to Good Counsel Homes pregnant with twins.  Iris’s path to Good Counsel’s door was not an easy one.  A mental health hospitalization subsequently caused the loss of her job.  Losing her job then led to the inevitable loss of her apartment.  With the deck stacked against her and now two little lives depending on her, Iris needed help not just with food and shelter; she needed hope, healing, and love for all three of them. Little Things Done Out of Love…

Here at Good Counsel, we continue to be so very touched by both the big and small gestures of charity for our moms, babies, and children.  Just a few weeks ago, some hand-made bracelets arrived at one of our homes for the moms to wear.  Given the circumstances that some of our moms face before they come through the door of a Good Counsel home, this small, pretty trinket is a reminder to our moms that they are beloved daughters of God and that they are beautiful. Happy First Birthday Gypsy!

We had quite the celebration at Good Counsel recently.  Some of our readers may remember Marisol’s story and the overwhelming circumstances that brought her to Good Counsel and the bittersweet arrival of baby girl Gypsy and the loss of Gypsy’s twin.  A few months ago we happily shared that Gypsy was growing and thriving and Marisol expressed her great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe for the ongoing health of sweet Gypsy.  Read More
