With four homes open for pregnant, homeless women, Good Counsel has served as a model for others who wish to begin a ministry of their own. The prolife community is often wrongly criticized as having the sole focus of making sure a baby is not killed by abortion, with little or no concern for the mother, or for the baby after he or she is born. The mission and ministry of Good Counsel Homes are a beautiful example of how to carry out the totality of the prolife mission – to care for all life – mom, baby, and siblings. Families can stay at a Good Counsel home for up to a full year after a baby is born or longer if necessary. Opening the doors to many more homes like Good Counsel are crucial in the advancement of a Culture of Life that Saint John Paul II called us all to do in Evangelium Vitae, “The Gospel of Life.”
Joseph’s House in Syracuse, New York, is the latest home for pregnant women to open its doors. Good Counsel is blessed to have been part of making Joseph’s House a reality. Staff and volunteers from Joseph’s House visited Good Counsel several times seeking expert advice and consultation. Good Counsel has helped to open homes like Joseph’s House in eight states.
Barry Vaughn, Board President for Joseph’s House said, “We appreciate all that Good Counsel Homes has done for Joseph’s House! We would not be where we are today if it weren’t for GCH’s friendship, counsel, and advice! God bless you!”
May God bless Joseph’s House, its mission, and the moms who finder refuge within.
