High School Throws Baby Shower for Good Counsel

Posted by | Jun 25, 2014 | No Comments

Homeless, pregnant women come to Good Counsel because they have nowhere else to go. Sadly, even their families have turned their back on them because they are pregnant. All too often, family members try to coerce the woman to get an abortion. Our brave moms stand their ground and say yes to life! Their brave choice should be celebrated. Recently, some students at Cardinal Spellman High School celebrated with two of our Bronx moms, treating them to a baby shower! Read More

Good Counsel Programs Pay Off

We love to celebrate at Good Counsel Homes and we especially love to celebrate our moms’ big accomplishments!   Most of our mothers come to Good Counsel having escaped dire circumstances, but they persevere, and we are blessed to be part of their journey.

Recently, one of our moms, Ana, received her Letter of Acceptance from Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing! Ana was one of only 50 applicants accepted into the nursing program. Fr. Chris Mann, Parochial Vicar of Holy Child Parish, celebrated Mass with the staff of our South Jersey home, our resident moms and their babies where we all prayed for Ana’s continued success as she embarks on this new phase of her life” Read More

Forgiveness After Abortion

Posted by | Jun 24, 2014 | No Comments

Funny thing about forgiveness, we seem to think we just forgive and that is the end of it.  But, the truth is, forgiving deep hurts takes a lot of time and most times has nothing to do with our feelings.

Forgiveness is not a one time shot. It often is a decision we need to make over and over again. When asked how many times we should forgive someone, Jesus tells us, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” That sure is a lot of times! Yet as we work to forgive, especially about our abortion, we often find we need to do it over and over again. Read More

Urgent Summer Need!

Posted by | Jun 20, 2014 | 3 Comments

Our 24/7 helpline is often the first contact our mothers have with Good Counsel Homes. In fact, over 33,000 calls have been made to our helpline since its inception in 1996. For this reason, the helpline needs to available without interruption. If not, we take the chance of not being able to help mothers and babies who desperately need our help during the summer months. The Best Birthday Present

Carrying out the mission of Good Counsel Homes can be a most humbling experience. It’s easy to get frustrated and stressed over the circumstances that left our moms with nowhere to go, with no choice, and with no options. However, once a new baby is born, or a mom receives her GED, or secures a hard-won new job, there is much rejoicing and we are renewed and and encouraged.

Another important thing that keeps us going is the generosity that we constantly see in so many forms from volunteers and even former residents, from donations, to a simple, heartfelt note of thanks. Then, there are the children whose generosity of spirit is overwhelming. Read More

There is Hope After Abortion

Posted by | Jun 2, 2014 | No Comments

Faith is not a light which scatters all our darkness, but a lamp which guides our steps in the night and suffices for the journey. To those who suffer, God does not provide arguments which explain everything; rather, his response is that of an accompanying presence, a history of goodness which touches every story of suffering and opens up a ray of light.” (Lumen Fidei – Pope Francis) Read More
