When I think back over 2014 there were many great moments and many accomplishments inside our Good Counsel homes. We thank God for the grace to run this humble ministry and know that the only reason the doors to our homes are open 365 days a year and our national helpline is answered 24/7 everyday is because you answer His call to help us. I put together a short video that I would like you to take a look at, and perhaps you may think about a year-end gift of support. Read More
December 2014 - Good Counsel
There is something gratifying about ending a year with all of your obligations fulfilled. It gives great promise in looking ahead to a new year with firm expectations. As Good Counsel closes out 2014, we have more work to do in order to end this fiscal budget “in the black.” Please take a few minutes to check out this short video message about our situation and how you can help us. How much is a life worth? Quite a question to ponder on this very holy day of Christmas. The value of Jesus’ life is truly the salvation of the world… and even more! Today as we wrap up our Advent reflection series Journey Into the Light, here is a Christmas greeting from Good Counsel’s co-founder and Executive Director, Christopher Bell. Read More
What a great joy to be able to say we welcomed in 44 new babies inside Good Counsel’s homes this year! Each birth is a reminder of how precious life is and how much God truly loves us and encourages us to care for the poorest of the poor…. homeless pregnant women and their babies.
As you celebrate Christmas with your family please know it is never too late to support Good Counsel with a Christmas gift. Here is a short video that I trust shows a couple of reasons why we need your help. Read More
On Sunday, November 23rd, five of our mothers from the Good Counsel home in the Bronx volunteered at the Annual Thanksgiving Feast at Mount of Blessings Church. Our moms spent time helping the church members set up for the event. They served dinner to the people in the community and stayed to help with the clean up afterwards. Read More
On December 8, 2014, I was blessed to be among the more than 1,000 attendees of the 69th Annual Cardinal’s Christmas Luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The luncheon has become a famed holiday affair where generous New Yorkers come together to benefit women and children served by the agencies and programs affiliated with the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York. Good Counsel is grateful to be one of the many recipients of this annual outpouring of support.
A child was born… and it changed everything for us all.
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:5 NAB).
Because a child was “born to us,” Good Counsel offers sanctuary to mothers who have nowhere else to turn. Like the stable where Jesus was born, our home isn’t much. Our facilities are simple, plain. But they are enough in God’s hands. Because of friends like you, we can welcome mothers like Niketa… Read More
On Tuesday, December 16th, we were honored and blessed to have the The Most Reverend Dennis Joseph Sullivan visit our home in Riverside, New Jersey. Bishop Sullivan was consecrated the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Camden on February 12, 2013. Although this was Bishop Sullivan’s first pastoral visit to our home, he is very familiar with the work of Good Counsel and has supported our mission and ministry since we first opened our doors to homeless, pregnant mothers in need. The following is from my talk at this year’s Annual Advent Dinner on December 4th, highlighting all of the good work Lumina has accomplished this year!
First of all, I want to thank Bishop Byrne for being here with us tonight. Myself along with a few other people here tonight, spent many a Saturday morning with then Fr. Bryne, praying in front of the Dobbs Ferry Abortion Clinic years ago. I can still see him showing up with his high school students who would sacrifice their Saturdays to come and pray with him. Thank you Bishop for your faithfulness and example. Read More
