Nanette Morris, House Manager of our Spring Valley Home, was presented with the Catholic Charities Meritorious Service Award in recognition of her outstanding work for Good Counsel Homes.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Catholic Charities of New York hosted, “The 2015 Convening of the Leadership of Catholic Charities Federation.” In his opening remarks, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, Executive Director of NY Catholic Charities, spoke first of those helping homeless pregnant mothers in need, mentioning Nanette.
About her receipt of the award, Nanette said, “My one question was “Why Me? There are so many others in our organization that do way more than I do, they should have received this award.”
Nanette has been House Manager of the Spring Valley home since April 2006 when Sr. Mona hired her. When asked what is her favorite thing about working at Good Counsel Homes, Nanette cheerfully responded, “Coming in and seeing my babies every day and knowing that a mom’s life will be changed because of their coming to Good Counsel. I look forward to the positive impact that our program is going to make on their life. I always tell our moms, that in our lives, we have seasons, and this is just a season for them to get back on their feet and to be successful for themselves and their children.” Nanette continued, “Whenever I have the chance to speak to someone about Good Counsel, I always give them my card and invite them to visit the home so that they can see firsthand, the love and joy that all of the staff at Good Counsel show daily.”
Good Counsel Homes was one of the 90 independent human services agencies represented at the convening of the Catholic Charities Federation. The evening brought together ministries from Staten Island, the Bronx, to the Hudson Valley and the Catskills. Cardinal Dolan highlighted the Catholic roots and joint mission of these organizations. Together, they touch the lives of an estimated 350,000 people each year.
