Have a Passion for Prolife? Good Counsel is Hiring!

Posted by | Oct 26, 2015 | No Comments

Good Counsel is a family for those in need, serving God who is the father of the orphan, defender of the widow, and who gives the lonely a home (Psalm 68).

Good Counsel works diligently to help homeless pregnant women to safely have their new babies and provide shelter and comprehensive support for them and their children. The women at Good Counsel gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be good mothers, capable of supporting their families in stable independence. This typically takes 12 to 15 months for each mother to complete the program and graduate. During this time Good Counsel provides meals, transportation, coordination of medical assessment and treatment for mothers and children, counseling, and especially Life Skills Training. Read More

True Mercy After Abortion

“Mercy is what love looks like when it turns toward the sinner.” Bishop Barron

Word on Fire recently posted a beautiful article by Bishop Robert E. Barron, Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, entitled Pope Francis and True Mercy.

I especially love this…

“Now this is important, for many receive the message of divine mercy as tantamount to a denial of the reality of sin, as though sin no longer matters. But, just the contrary is the case. To speak of mercy is to be intensely aware of sin and its peculiar form of destructiveness. Or to shift to one of the Pope’s favorite metaphors, it is to be acutely conscious that one is wounded so severely that one requires, not minor treatment, but the emergency and radical attention provided in a hospital on the edge of a battlefield.”

Please help! 9 babies in the next 90 days!

Posted by | Oct 20, 2015 | No Comments

I remember—all too well—my first attempt at changing a diaper.

It was back in 1985, when God called me to help homeless, pregnant women. I was 27, single, with absolutely no experience in caring for a baby! I confess, that first diaper was a mess even before the baby did anything in it.

I never imagined, way back then, Good Counsel would still be going strong 30 years later, helping moms and their babies. Over the years, I’ve clung to Isaiah 41:13, where God says, “For I am the Lord your God who grasps your right hand; It is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you.” Read More

The Twins Have Arrived!

Posted by | Oct 15, 2015 | One Comment

Many of our readers have wondered about the twins whose ultrasound picture garnered a lot of interest on our blog and our social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. At a time when so much horrifying information was coming to light as a result of the undercover investigation at Planned Parenthood by the Center for Medical Progress, an ultrasound of the twins our Good Counsel mom, Amanda, was carrying, offered hope and joy to those so disheartened by the culture of death.

Now we can celebrate with Amanda, her 3-year-old son, Joshua, and her new baby boy and girl, Jermaine and Jazmine! Delivery went well, however, the twins were on the small side weighing just a bit over four pounds each. Both had to have a short stay in the NICU, with Jermaine coming home first, followed by Jazmine a few days later. Read More

Trafficking Baby Body Parts – The Price We Pay

Posted by | Oct 1, 2015 | No Comments

There is nothing so ingrained in my mind as my aborted son being dumped into a large plastic jar labeled “3A” on the front. As a teenager I was coerced by my dad to have an abortion I did not want. I, like many young girls who are kicked out of the house, or threatened with it, caved in to the pressure to abort because I had no job, no money, no place to go and was abandoned by those I loved to get the result they wanted.

It took years for me to move past this traumatic experience and find the help I needed to heal in a society that continues to deny the impact of abortion on countless numbers of women who have experienced abortion. Read More
