Mother Angelica’s Illuminated Life

Posted by | Mar 31, 2016 | 5 Comments

Father Benedict Groeschel, co-founder of Good Counsel, once said that Mother Angelica was an example of someone living in an illuminative way, living in response to God’s love and not solely for chore or duty.  In his book, Spiritual Passages, Father Benedict states, “The Christian in the Illuminative Way lives on Scripture and is fed on the writings of the saints.  Reverence and awe [grow] … and the soul is now seen not so much as a shadow being but as the inner place where the Trinity abides in glory.”[1]  I believe we can all agree that Mother Angelica was a shining example of how to live life illuminated and in continuous obedience to God’s will.

Christopher Bell, president of Good Counsel, was fortunate to have met Mother Angelica and had been a guest on “Mother Angelica Live,” several times in the late 80s and early 90s.  Reflecting on those times, he said, “What a great gift for me to have met her.  Her closeness to God was very real.  It was at once both an example and a positive encouragement. She once told her audience while we were talking about Good Counsel homes to ‘call this young man and give him your empty convents to open as homes for mothers and babies’!” Read More

Happy Easter from Good Counsel!

Happy Easter!

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad!

Acts 10: 34a, 37-43; Colossians 3: 1-4; Sequence of the Paschal Victim; John 20: 1-9

If you have ever had a lack of faith, today is your day!

If you have ever considered yourself to be “a loser” and have never tasted victory, today is your day!

If you have ever questioned whether you are lovable or if anyone cares about you, today is your day!

This is the day the Lord has made and we all have reason to rejoice and be glad. Today is the day we rejoice that Our God rose from the dead and defeated sin! He opened the doors to Heaven and mercifully gave us an entry pass so that we can be with Him in paradise.

On this Easter Sunday we hear from Good Counsel President Christopher Bell as we rejoice on this blessed day. Read More

A Good Friday Message from Father Groeschel

Posted by | Mar 22, 2016 | No Comments

On this Good Friday when we once again fast and abstain from meat, we look briefly at the words of Jesus on the cross. When He says, “It is finished,” we know that He has paid the price for our sins. It is a mystery how someone can take on all of the sins past, present, and future but our faith tells us that this is so.

For Good Friday, we are blessed to offer you a video reflection by Good Counsel’s co-founder, Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR, recorded just six months before he passed away.  In the video, Father Benedict speaks about Good Friday and Good Counsel. Read More

Surrendering Sin & Misery After Abortion

Posted by | Mar 10, 2016 | No Comments

Surrendering our sins and misery. Sounds like it should be so easy. Who wants to hold on to “sins and misery,” yet, we do, especially after abortion. We sometimes cling to them as if they were our best friends! Sometimes it is so difficult to let go even when we do not want that which we cling to.  Even sin and misery can become familiar and comfortable! Read More
