Your Support is Priceless

You may not believe this. I wish it weren’t true.

It was a typical beautiful, hot summer day.  Eyes were drooping with dark bags, too old looking for such a young girl.  Long, thin fingers with tan polished nails, all but the white ring finger, clutching a small, plastic bag full of personal items.  Ida walked in, slowly, zombie-like.

She’d lived in a car, in a shed, on the road ever since the father of her baby found out she was pregnant and kicked her out. The alternative, for many moms like Ida, is to think about not giving her baby a birth date, like she was told. Read More

A Prayer for You from Mother Teresa

Posted by | Aug 25, 2016 | No Comments

I feel, like many of you, that I knew Mother Teresa, soon to be St. Teresa of Calcutta.  She touched millions of souls around the world and was a true role model in caring for the poorest of the poor.

Thanks to my dearly departed friend, Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR, I was able to meet Mother with my family. Two of my children, Emiliano and Mary, were so young at the time and I am not sure how much they remember, but the life and love of Mother Teresa live on for the many who never met her or had the opportunity to look into those eyes, filled with Christ’s love! Can We Heal the Hidden Wounds of Abortion?

Posted by | Aug 16, 2016 | No Comments

When I heard the testimony of the grandmother, I realized I was not alone. Here was someone who experienced the same things as I did. I see the way my daughter continues to suffer years later as a result of an abortion she had decades ago and feel so sorry that I did not do more at the time to support her in her pregnancy. Little did we know that this would impact our entire family forever.” –Jo

Such were the words of someone who attended “An Afternoon of Prayerful Remembrance and Intercession.

We tend to think of abortion in terms of the mother and baby and sometimes the father, but so often we fail to look at the entire picture of how abortion impacts our nation. As a teenager who was coerced into an abortion by my parents, my road to healing was long because no one would acknowledge my experience. It took years to find the help I needed. Read More

Love Them Both Where They Live

GIVE NOW

What if you learned that a mother was about to be put on the street, with no place to live and her baby at risk?

Not long ago, I got a call like that.  It reminded me of 31 years ago, seeing homeless mothers and babies coming into a crisis shelter.  I remember meeting pregnant mothers on the streets of Manhattan and praying, “Father of the orphan, defender of the widow, such is God in His Holy Place” (Psalm 68), and feeling that the Lord was asking me to respond.

That’s all part of why I started Good Counsel.  And thanks to you and many other generous friends, I’ve been able to say “yes” to mothers and babies in need for three solid decades.  Thank you.  Praise God!

Today, a special place called Mary’s Shelter is asking urgently for help – because without our help, they’ll have to shut down.  They’re not here in the New York area.  They’re on the Gulf Coast, serving women from Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. Read More

Childcare Critical to Good Counsel’s Prolife Mission

Posted by | Aug 10, 2016 | No Comments

Would you help a pregnant, desperate mother never to be homeless again?  And would you help her to save the life of her unborn child? I have a real, practical way you can help right now.  Please allow me to explain…

If childcare were not available for our moms, they would remain stagnant and leave our care without furthering their education, obtaining a GED, or finding stable, secure employment.  Childcare is absolutely critical to the mission of Good Counsel. Read More
