It was a night to remember benefitting the mothers and babies of Good Counsel. Nearly 300 supporters representing South Jersey from Toms River to the Jersey Shore enjoyed a truly wonderful evening that began with fellowship and hors d’oeurves followed by a delicious sit down dinner and dessert.
Fr. Joselito Noche, Respect Life Liaison for the Trenton Diocese and Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Hainesport, opened the evening with prayer. Father Robert Hughes, Vicar General of the Camden Diocese offered an insightful keynote address. We were blessed to have many clergy present, from both the Camden and Trenton dioceses, some whom have celebrated Mass in the South Jersey home and others who have allowed Good Counsel to visit their parishes to share our story and give out baby bottles.
And always the guests of honor were our mothers and babies who joined us at the banquet to celebrate life and love. One special mom, Alexa, bravely shared her touching and triumphant story with all present, after which she had one special person cheering her on, her sweet baby, Harper.
“I was abandoned by my parents and was pressured to find another place to live. I had lost my job, had no money and then I remembered the pamphlets the ladies gave me. l called the emergency pregnancy hotline and was connected to Good Counsel Homes. I could not believe my ears as she told me I could stay there ‘as long as I wanted.’ I started to feel there was light at the end of the tunnel and that same day I was welcomed into the Riverside home.”
The Father Benedict Groeschel Life Award was presented to Infant Jesus Parish and St. Margaret’s, Woodbury Heights, Knights of Columbus, Council #13259 for their outstanding support of our South Jersey home, helping to raise money for the home for the past ten years.
The Life Award was also presented to Holy Angels-St. Rapheal’s Respect Life Committee in Hamilton, NJ, for their support of our home for the past years with baby bottle drives at their parish and also for their witness to the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.
We had much to be thankful for this year and we pray we will have even more to be thankful for next year.
It is because of you that Alexa and the other mothers entrusted to our care begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel when they come to Good Counsel. Thank you for helping us to shine brightly.
