As we begin our 2017 Lenten journey with Ash Wednesday, it is important to realize what many have previously stated; the most arduous struggle one takes in life, and the one that may take the longest amount of time, is the interior journey from the head to the heart.
Readings of the day:
Joel 2: 12-18
Psalm 51: Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.
2 Corinthians 5: 20—6: 2
Matthew 6: 1-6, 16-18
Every journey requires a first step and today offers a great opportunity by receiving ashes at church. The ashes are an outward sign that you are willing to follow, just as the apostles were, and that you may take the steps in opening your heart to God.
At Good Counsel, a homeless pregnant mom’s first step may be to pick up the phone and call our helpline (800-723-8331). This can be a courageous act when everyone around them is pushing for an abortion. On this day of Ash Wednesday, let us stay committed and be willing to keep our heart open.
Prayer for Today: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for the invitation to draw closer to You. Help me through this Lenten season so that together we may grow closer together. Amen.
If you were inspired by today’s reflection, please join us as we strive to give our hearts to Jesus during this Lenten Season.
Starting today, Good Counsel offers a free Lenten series entitled, “Come Back to Me with All Your Heart.” Each day you will receive an email that contains a free daily devotional, spiritual reflection, or short prayer to accompany you as you prepare for Our Lord’s Easter Resurrection.
In addition to our daily reflections, we also provide you with an opportunity to send us your prayer requests on our special Lenten prayer page. You may leave your prayer request anonymously if you wish so we at Good Counsel can pray for you.
Sign up now so you don’t miss a day of what promises to be a beautiful way to live out Lent this year. Allow His merciful invitation to change your heart!
