The day Molly arrived at the front door of our Good Counsel home on Staten Island was a rainy Wednesday afternoon in February. She was 26 years old and pregnant — not a good day to be homeless and out on the street. Molly had been in an abusive relationship with her child’s father and he was demanding an abortion. Fearful for the safety of both herself and her unborn child, she fled to her parents’ home.
In an unusual entrance to our program, Molly was accompanied by both of her parents, who are disabled. Molly was born and raised on Staten Island, and her family was familiar with our services. Her parents pleaded for Molly to be placed into our program and specifically our Staten Island Home.
