It is frightening how immature and lost I was at the age of 24. I had already had three terminations and was still struggling to get sober after three years of relapses. In spite of growing up middle class, attending one of the best ranked high schools in New Jersey, and having a couple of years of college behind me, I was lost.

It was in this condition that I found myself several months pregnant with a man that was running away from his responsibility. My parents were giving me an ultimatum: Abort this child or move out of the house.

By the grace of God, an acquaintance heard me share at a 12-step meeting and gave me the phone number to Good Counsel. What divine intervention!

I can sing Good Counsel’s praise forever. In spite of the fear and hopelessness that was upon me, I was able to go back to school and graduate from college and today I work in Social Services helping others.

The love of Jesus was reinforced at Good Counsel to me and my son, Jake, whose first home was Good Counsel in Spring Valley. Jake was lovingly cared for inside Good Counsel’s daycare while I was out. The staff and volunteers were like family and provided me with a safety net.

Thank you Good Counsel and Happy Anniversary!

Blessings,
