Pregnant? Need Help?

Who We Are

We’re not just a shelter for pregnant women in crisis. We’re a loving home. We offer care and compassion for any pregnant woman in need.

We’re Not Just a Shelter or House, We’re a Loving Home

Good Counsel is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader and innovator in creating supportive residential care and community-based services for homeless, expectant, and new mothers and their children in the context of the Catholic social tradition. Pregnant and expectant mothers, with or without other born children, including mothers with mental health or addiction challenges, from any location, are able to receive help in a Good Counsel home.

Good Counsel was founded in 1985, and its outreach program continues to this day. Good Counsel now has four homes: three in the New York State counties of the Bronx, Richmond (Staten Island), and Rockland; and in New Jersey’s Burlington County (just outside Camden and very near Philadelphia).

Our 24 / 7 Crisis Pregnancy Helpline

Good Counsel has a national 24 / 7 helpline (800-723-8331) assisting pregnant women, along with a follow-up Exodus Program for mothers and children leaving the Good Counsel residences, and an outreach assisting those single-parent families who need assistance but not in a home.

Lumina, Our Post-abortion Healing Program

Additionally, Good Counsel has a post-abortion referral network, Lumina, with its own national helpline, website and network of assistance for men and siblings, as well as women, affected by abortion.

Both Good Counsel and Lumina assist others in replicating our services. Good Counsel has helped independent groups open Good Counsel-type models in eight states. Lumina, too, has its services copied in many others states.
