“My Name is Vanetta, and I am a Good Counsel RESCUE!”

Posted by | Nov 7, 2019 | No Comments

Each year at the Annual South Jersey Banquet, we are blessed to have a mother step forward to tell the story of how she came to Good Counsel.  Hearing a Good Counsel mother tell her own story is priceless for all who listen.  Our friends, donors, supporters, volunteers, and others get to hear first hand how they have impacted the lives of those we are privileged to serve.

Good Counsel mom, Vanetta, was up to the task and eager to prepare her to tell her story.  A story that undoubtedly deeply affected every person in the room. Read More

On the 5th Anniversary of Father Benedict’s Passing

Posted by | Oct 3, 2019 | No Comments

It is hard to believe that it is now five years since my dear friend and Good Counsel co-founder, Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR, passed away. He died on October 3, 2014 on the eve of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Before his passing, when I asked for his advice, Fr. Benedict told me to “just grow.”  So that’s what we continue to do.  With your prayers & generosity, more homeless, pregnant mothers and babies are helped each year. Read More

The Homeless Shelter Couldn’t Help, but Good Counsel Did

Posted by | Oct 2, 2019 | No Comments

When homeless, pregnant mothers finally reach the door of a Good Counsel homes, they’ve often made several, if not many, stops and detours along the way, none of them safe or healthy. Some may find temporary housing in a homeless shelter, but their time there is up when their pregnancy begins to show, or they are turned away at the first interview because they tell the interviewer that they are pregnant or perhaps they have other children. When a woman applies for temporary housing with a social service agency, they have to prove that they are “really” homeless. They will inquire about any relatives who could take them in, and those relatives could be people the woman doesn’t know.  Even if there is a space, it may not be healthy, or safe.  If there is a couch open at a friend’s or family member’s home, then the woman is deemed not homeless. If they are approved, they often have to reapply at certain intervals because after all, it is just temporary housing. Read More

Posted by | Sep 24, 2019 | No Comments

Please welcome baby boy Jordan to the Good Counsel Family! Jordan was born on September 14, 2019.  He weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 20 inches long. If Jordan’s mom did not live at Good Counsel, where would they have gone when discharged from the hospital together?  Where would Jordan’s mom have been before he was born?  Fortunately, because of you, both Jordan & his mom are now back at home at Good Counsel and enjoying their new life together surrounded by love and support.  Jordan is the 35th baby born this year to date.  1,195 babies have joined the Good Counsel family since 1985.  None of them were alone.

Abortion Affects Everybody, yet Hope Remains

Posted by | Sep 20, 2019 | No Comments

The aftermath of abortion leaves many casualties in its wake, first and foremost, the unborn child who will never be born and the mother, whose life is forever changed.  Fortunately, there has been hope and healing for post-abortive women for quite some time now including Lumina, the post-abortive healing ministry of Good Counsel, Entering Canaan, Project Rachel & Rachel’s Vineyard and many others who reveal to the grieving mother the ocean of mercy before her even though she has had an abortion. It’s Not Too Late to Celebrate Good Counsel South Jersey

Posted by | Sep 17, 2019 | No Comments

We are thrilled to present Brenda Quinn with the 2019 Father Benedict Groeschel Life Award at this year’s banquet.  Brenda played a crucial role on the founding team for the South Jersey Good Counsel Home. She, along with Bill Klatt and Christopher Bell, led the team in raising funds to open the home in Riverside. In the period leading up to the opening of the home, she was also in charge of doing outreach to mothers in need. During this time, she helped to save the lives of 47 babies, by providing their moms with necessary resources.

Even though the official deadline has passed, we don’t want anyone to miss out on attending the Banquet or sending your congratulatory messages to Brenda by Sponsoring an Advertisement or Greeting in this year’s Banquet Journal.  It’s not too late, but time is running out! Read More
