Hello Baby 1,093, David Matthew!

Baby David Matthew decided to wake everyone up very, very early on October 24th!  Our newest partner in saving lives, Good Counsel Malta House of Connecticut, was very excited for his arrival.  The House Manager stayed with mom, Stephanie, to offer support and guidance throughout her labor and delivery.  David Matthew was a healthy 8 pounds and 19 3/4 inches long.

We’re Doing what Father Benedict Told Us to Do, thanks to you!

It is hard to believe that it is now three years since my dear friend and Good Counsel co-founder, Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR, passed away. He died on October 3, 2014 on the eve of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Before his passing, when I asked for his advice, Fr. Benedict told me to “just grow.”  Just three years later, we now have seven homes with the addition of Good Counsel Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast and Good Counsel Malta House of CT. On average 115 mothers and babies are cared for each day at Good Counsel. Read More

2 Bronx Babies born 8 minutes apart at 2 different hospitals!

We talk a lot about how Good Counsel isn’t just a shelter, it’s a home.  We also talk a lot about how the mothers, babies, staff, and volunteers are like a family, often times a very tight-knit family.

That closeness was illustrated at the Bronx home on September 7th as two moms went into labor at the same time! Each mom was transported to the hospital – but not the same hospital.  Once they arrived at different hospitals, they gave birth to their babies within 8 minutes of each other! Read More
