Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Who ever saw a dead man come back to life?

Those who were with Jesus when he raised Lazarus did. Those who saw Jesus stop the funeral cortege of the widowed mother’s son did. Those who saw the little girl arise did.  But have you?  I have not.

Yet, I do believe.

I believe on faith, but my faith is also underscored by the sight of the troubled, depressed, rejected pregnant mom who comes into Good Counsel one day, gives birth another day, and finds a new life in Christ a third day. Read More

Father Benedict’s Good Friday Video Message

Posted by | Apr 14, 2017 | No Comments

Dear Friend,

Several years ago Good Counsel’s Joe Quattrocchi had the opportunity to chat with Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR, about a number of things including one of his favorite days of the year, Good Friday.

Father Benedict spent many years preaching at Good Friday Services but, as his health began to fade he was no longer able to do so.

Here in the last Good Friday reflection Father Benedict would make before his death in 2014, Good Counsel’s co-founder speaks about the importance of this day and how appreciative he is of all who support the work of Good Counsel.  I hope you will enjoy this video. Read More

New Life on Holy Thursday

Posted by | Apr 13, 2017 | No Comments

From today’s Lenten Reflection series…Holy Thursday

Readings for today:
Exodus 12: 1-8, 11-14
Psalm 116:  Our blessing-cup is a communion with the Blood of Christ
John 13: 1-15

Holy Thursday begins the Triduum, the three days that lead up to Easter Sunday.  Technically Lent ends, but there is still fasting and abstinence from meat that is encouraged for tomorrow, Good Friday. Mass is generally celebrated during the evening to coincide with the Gospel which commemorates Jesus’ celebrating Passover and His Last Supper which institutes the Eucharist, the priesthood, and a life dedicated to service. Baby Boys Times Two on the Same Day!

Good Counsel’s 1,051st & 1,052nd babies were born on the same day!

Both bouncing baby boys arrived on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.  First to arrive was baby Noah.  Noah was born at 11:27 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 7 ounces.  Noah and his mom, Ashli, are doing great at home, bonding, and getting to know one another.

Very soon after the news of Noah came in, the Bronx home reported that baby Barry had arrived at 12:35 p.m.  Barry weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces.  He and his mom did great and were discharged to home on St. Patrick’s day. Read More

Daystar, a Home for the Most Vulnerable Mothers & Babies

Let’s create a new springtime for Good Counsel’s Daystar home

Just as spring has sprung, Good Counsel is looking forward to new life – a springtime – for one of our homes called Daystar.

Good Counsel’s Daystar home was started back in 1999 because I saw that many homeless, pregnant women, who suffered from a dual diagnosis, meaning a mental illness and/or an addiction, had nowhere to go.  Most residential programs throughout the country would say no for admission, particularly if a woman’s substance abuse problem was less than 30 days old.
