It’s been strangely quiet around our homes the last month or two – well not that quiet, but we haven’t heard a lot of newborn cooing or crying. Quite a few of our moms were due around the same time – and that time is now! We’ve had FOUR brand new babies born into the Good Counsel family in just the last couple of weeks – and more are on their way so stay tuned! In the meantime, we ask for your prayers for these new babies and for their brave mothers who chose life – life for their child and a new life for themselves. Read More
Deacon Peter Venezia, a long time friend of Good Counsel, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, on the Feast of Mother Teresa. He had prayed daily asking for the intercession of Fr. Benedict Groeschel, Good Counsel Co-Founder, for a cure of his cancer, even so, Deacon Peter was very much at peace with whatever the Lord willed.
Deacon Peter, along with his wife, JoAnn, assisted the mothers and babies of Good Counsel in countless ways in Spring Valley, New York. The couple served on the Board of Directors of Good Counsel since 2014 and had volunteered in our homes for nearly twenty years. Deacon Peter baptized hundreds of Good Counsel babies along with some of their mothers. Joann is Godmother to many children who have resided at Good Counsel. We ask for your prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul and comfort and consolation for his wife, his son James, and his daughter-in-law, Leah. James and Leah are expecting their first child. Having his family with him for these past few months was a comfort and blessing for Deacon Peter. Read More
“Get out!” Deja’s grandma kicked her AND the precious baby growing inside her out of the house, leaving them both abandoned and rejected. I cannot even imagine the hurt, confusion, and fear. And then the panic of being turned away at a shelter after shelter, because she was pregnant with a baby she loved and wanted to raise and care for. She needed a job, and stability, and the chance to make a good life for her baby. Read More

Chloe Kodrich and her family, this year’s honorees at Good Counsel’s Ball for Life, are tireless advocates defending the life of the unborn, especially the unborn with Down Syndrome. Currently, in the United States, roughly three-quarters of women who receive a Down Syndrome prenatal diagnosis choose to abort their baby. In some countries such as Iceland, children with Down Syndrome will soon be “eradicated,” and it is decried a victory. Read More
Will you help to prepare a home for Abigail and her baby!
Can you even imagine it? Your baby is born. The hospital prepares to discharge you and your precious little child, but you have nowhere to go.
It happened to Abigail. When she learned she was having a baby; her world came crashing down. Her husband didn’t want a baby. He turned on her, violently. She had to escape. She fled to a shelter for abuse victims. She was safe, but her baby wasn’t. The shelter couldn’t keep her-it wasn’t licensed to care for newborn babies. Read More

Amelia’s birth mother had been murdered. Her adoptive mother died. Her boyfriend left. She was pregnant and scared—
By God’s grace, she found Good Counsel. And thanks to your generosity, Good Counsel was able to open its doors, lift her spirits, and assure her, “You‘re not alone!”
A few days ago, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces! She named him Zion, a biblical name that means “Rise up!” How fitting! Her little guy is a wonderful picture of how Amelia has risen up from the ashes of her former life. She is working very hard to make a new life for herself and for her son. Read More
We love to share stories with you about what goes on at a Good Counsel home. We love to show you what is accomplished because of your prayerful and faithful support. Recently, some of our New York staff visited Good Counsel Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast and the agenda was packed. But, you never know what’s going to happen on a visit to a Good Counsel Home!
The marathon of meetings was interrupted not once, not twice, but three times! In the span of just a couple of hours, three moms began experiencing labor pains and were taken to the hospital via ambulance! How exciting! One staff member who was tasked with taking photos and video on the visit, had his video camera ready for the controlled chaos that ensued. Watch this video to see a “typical” day at Good Counsel.
