At Good Counsel, we believe that healing begins in the details—in a warm welcome, a clean bed, and a space that offers dignity and peace. For the mothers in our care, many of whom are overcoming homelessness, trauma, or abuse, even something as simple as a sturdy dresser can make all the difference.

A couple of decades ago, a generous donor outfitted all four of our maternity homes with bedroom furniture. For years, that gift provided comfort and stability to hundreds of mothers and their children. But with daily use and constant turnover, time took its toll. The once-beautiful dressers and furnishings became worn down—many with deep cosmetic damage, and others with serious structural issues like drawers that no longer stayed on their tracks or fronts that had come loose entirely.

Our staff worked hard to patch what they could, but the need for replacement had become urgent.

This spring, that need was answered—graciously and generously—by Dr. Richard Mani of Belvedere Tiburon, California. Dr. Mani has long supported our mission, funding everything from essential supplies to matching gift campaigns. Most recently, he funded the replacement of all dressers and bedroom furniture across all four homes.

Thanks to his gift, every mother now has a room that not only functions better but feels like a true refuge. These aren’t just pieces of furniture—they’re a statement of care. They say: You are worthy of beauty. You are worth rebuilding around.
