On Tuesday, August 20th, Spring Valley celebrated the birth of its newest resident, baby Charlie. At 11:08 a.m., Charlie entered the world weighing a healthy 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and measuring 20.5 inches long. From the very start, Charlie showed signs of being a strong, hungry little boy. While his mother, Christina, underwent a basic yet necessary procedure after giving birth, one of our dedicated case managers, Annette, had the privilege of feeding Charlie for the first time.
This moment was made even more special by the presence of a former resident of our maternity home, who had once given birth to her own child while living at Spring Valley house. Having successfully completed our program, this mother returned to assist new residents like Christina, helping bridge language barriers by translating for our Creole-speaking mothers. Her support, both emotionally and linguistically, made a world of difference during Christina's labor, reminding us of the deep bonds that form within our community.
At Good Counsel, our mission goes beyond the moment of birth. We are dedicated to supporting mothers like Christina by providing housing, food, pregnancy support, and childcare, as well as life skills programs to prepare them for independence. Our goal is to ensure that no mother feels alone on her journey toward being the woman and mother that God has called her to be.
After the birth of their children, and after they've had time to bond with their babies, we help moms continue their education or pursue certification programs to open doors for their future. We also assist in job searches and securing meaningful employment. The journey doesn't stop there. We understand that financial stability is key to long-term success, so we encourage our moms to establish savings accounts, which we guide them in maintaining. Our ultimate goal is to help them secure safe, appropriate housing for themselves and their children, so they can continue building healthy and fulfilling lives.
Christina, like many of the women we serve, is now home with her baby Charlie and thriving. Our continued relationship with her ensures that she has a support system long after she has left our care. At Good Counsel, we stay in touch with every mother to provide an ongoing safety net. We believe that motherhood is a journey, one that doesn’t end once a mother leaves our home. That’s why we remain available, offering guidance and support whenever it is needed. No mother should ever have to feel alone again, especially when navigating the challenges of parenting and building a future for her family.
We invite you to join us in praying for Christina and Charlie and all of the mothers and children at Good Counsel. Through community support, prayers, and contributions, we can continue saving and empowering mothers, ensuring they have the resources, education, and opportunities to thrive. Together, we can help these women become the strong, loving, and self-sufficient mothers they are meant to be.
Together we can save lives, one mom at a time! #SAVEtheMOMS
